The Thing That Jesus Talked About

“He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God…” -Luke 9:11

We speak about the things that matter to us, that are real for us, and Jesus spoke about the Kingdom of God. How refreshing is that?

No talk radio! No politics! No complaining about the tyrannical government of the time! I mean talk about someone who had reason to believe in conspiracies- Herod the Great plotted to make sure Jesus never made it past being an infant!

But Jesus didn’t talk about that kind of stuff, instead He talked about the Kingdom of God.

You know what happens when something so amazing happens in your life that all you can do is talk about it? That was Jesus and Kingdom of God. He knew about something that we don’t- He knew of God’s Kingdom and just couldn’t stop thinking about it and talking about it. The world’s kingdom was nothing in comparison. He was even offered it, and all it’s power, and turned it down without hesitation.

“Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” – Matthew 4:8

Blah, blah, blah.

Jesus already had something better! Did the Devil not get that?

“Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’“-Matthew 4:10

The Devil is trying to get us all excited about the world too! He tries to make it seem like the real issues of life are happening down here on planet earth. He’d rather we never get clued into the fact that there’s another kingdom, one that far surpasses the kingdoms of the world.

Why are so many of us Christians focused on politics, world leaders, and earthly governments? Why do we spend so much of our time thinking and talking about these things?

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” -Philippians 3:20
