You Smile Too Much!

I was once told by a Pastor that I smiled too much. No, he really meant it! He actually thought I smiled too much! “You need more than a smile”, he told me in reference to having a strong spiritual life, and went on to school me in how he thought things should be for a Christian.

See, the thing is, I was known for the perpetual smile that was always on my face, and I guess he thought that was pretty superficial. He called me out for smiling too much!

Do I even need to say how sad this is? I won’t go on to defend myself other than to say this guy obviously had no clue how in love with the Lord I was, or how much time I spent with Jesus every day!

Here’s what my bible says…

“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”¬† -Romans 14:17

Let me tell you something, spending time with Jesus will put a smile on your face! He is able to change your life, give you peace and flood your heart with joy. In fact, if these things are missing it could be a sign that something’s not quite right in your relationship with God. It’s a good litmus test for me anyway. When I drift from Him I lose my peace, I’m not as happy, and my whole life kind of takes on a dingy film- like a car that hasn’t been washed in a long time. Everything kind of loses it’s luster when we fall away from Jesus.

Now on the flip side, when we have Him close to our hearts, the whole world looks like a brighter place. I used to drive an old rusty car, barely had money to feed myself and lived in rooms the size of a shoebox as I traveled about singing and preaching the gospel. And you know what? I was happy as a clam!

That smile of mine was Jesus induced and produced!
