This World

This World Is Passing Away

“…For this world in its present form is passing away.” (1 Corinthians 7:31)

Current world events keep pushing us toward the fulfillment of biblical prophecy and it led to me pondering these things and writing this song. Jesus told us not to be found sleeping at his return and let us know that there would signs for the observant that signaled the “end of the age” as we know it. (See Matthew 24:1-51)

My song “This World” addresses what the Word of God calls “the world system”.

What is the World System?

The world system consists of a structured, organized, regimented plan that is essentially being orchestrated and implemented by Satan. This plan has as it’s objective the goal of keeping God out, and the people who are under it’s system of influence enslaved, deceived, and blinded to their actual condition of slavery.

The world system presents the facade of being a very attractive place that offers amenities, pleasures and desirable riches to those who will play it’s game. It lures it’s victims by using the “lust of the flesh”.

“For everything in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–comes not from the Father but from the world.” (1 John 2:16)

The end game of the world system, however, is eternal death- a place in the lake of fire. No matter how good things may appear; no matter how many promises it holds out of happiness, God tells us that everything the world offers is all “passing away”.

When recording the song I chose to use sounds that reminded me of a video game. The analogy is that the world system treats life as a game. It even encourages people to play religious games as long as we don’t partake of the real thing. Most people play the game of the world system without giving it a second thought. While God clearly loves people, He makes it very plain that He has no love for the world system.

“Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him…” (1 John 2:15)

I finish my song with an incessant heartbeat signifying the world system’s relentless pressure to make us conform to it’s pattern. I end the song with a firework display that fizzles out, flatlines and comes to nothing.

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.” (2 Peter 3:10)
