The Universe Is Not Speaking To You!

Have you ever noticed how many people there are out there who think the universe is speaking to them? I see it almost every time I look at Facebook- memes about the universe and how it’s trying to tell us something, or give us something, or bless us in this or that way. You know what? It’s not! The universe is NOT speaking to you!

What’s especially crazy is that many of the people I see posting and sharing memes about “the universe” are people that don’t believe in God. So they believe that a living God doesn’t exist but somehow an inanimate object like “the universe” is able to talk to them? Does that even make sense? If something’s going to talk with me I want it at least to be alive, to be able to think, to be able to act on it’s own free will- the last time I checked “the universe” isn’t able to do these things.

Who know what this reminds me of? It reminds me of how the bible talks about people making an idol out of a block of wood and bowing down to it-¬† worshiping a stupid piece of wood that can’t speak or listen or do anything but sit there, and they think that honoring this block of wood is somehow being spiritual.

“No one stops to think, no one has the knowledge or understanding to say, “Half of it I used for fuel; I even baked bread over its coals, I roasted meat and I ate. Shall I make a detestable thing from what is left? Shall I bow down to a block of wood?” – Isaiah 44:19

If you’ve got the faith to think some cosmic inanimate universe is doing something for you, or speaking to you, is it really such a stretch to believe in God? I mean, doesn’t believing in God make MORE sense than believing that a faceless universe is out there trying to be your friend?
