The Jesus Record

We listened to “The Jesus Record” with songs written by Rich Mullins on our way to Cannon Beach. It was a beautiful day for the beach and a beautiful way to spend the drive over there listening to what I would certainly call anointed Spirit inspired music.

It’s been awhile since I’d listened to the album. The reason being that we pretty much stream everything now from our devices and this was on CD. We’d never gotten around to putting it in the iPod so it’d been awhile since I last heard it. But it really made me think, “This is what Christian music should be!”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not setting myself up as an expert or arbiter of musical style or tastes- No, that isn’t it at all. But there is something in this album that at it’s core is real, and authentic, and breathes life. Simply- I experience Jesus when I listen! I’m moved not mainly by the music, but by God’s Spirit! To me, that’s what good Christian music is all about. I want the Spirit of God to show me Jesus!

“For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.” -Revelation 19:10

What is it we should be going for?

A clear witness of Jesus.

Whether we are talking to a friend, preaching in front of a crowd, or writing Christian music- we should always be striving to give a clear witness of Jesus. Did you know that is the work of the Spirit of God? To give a clear witness of Jesus? Well, that is what He is all about; that is what the Spirit of God is always trying to do!

From beginning to end “The Jesus Record” gives a perfectly clear witness to Jesus, and that’s what I love about it.

There has been within Christian music a tendency from the 80’s right on to the present to avoid being blatantly Christian. Some Christian musicians even seem to feel that writing really obvious Christian lyrics is being somehow less artistic. Nothing could be further from the truth!

May the Lord bless His people with Christian musicians who desire to be a clear witness of Jesus!
