The Coming Collision

“And thou, Daniel, close the words, and seal the book, till the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” -Daniel 12:4

There is an apocalyptic collision coming and it is quickly approaching. I’ve talked about this verse from Daniel before because it holds a major key to unlocking end times prophecy. While many look for elaborate scenarios, weaving together verses in an attempt to understand where we are in end times events, this simple verse from Daniel 12:4 explains it all succinctly. It’s all well and good to mine for gold but it seems when it comes to something as important as the end of the world God has given us some simple and obvious clues. This verse from Daniel is one of them.

“The time of the end”, as it is referred to in this verse, has two major features. First, people will be traveling like never before in history, rushing about here and there like we never have before. The end times can be distilled down to this sense of overwhelming busyness in life where we are rushing from place to place and thing to thing. Second, there will be an explosion in knowledge. It’s been explained by many before that when the bible talks about knowledge being increased in this prophetic verse it is not talking about small incremental steps but rather a vast increase, a rapid increase, an exponential increase in knowledge.

With this simple groundwork laid we can peer into the future and see the predictable outcome.

An often overlooked sign that we are living in the last days is that our hearts are not keeping up with our heads. At the very moment that our knowledge is exploding our hearts are imploding! Our heads are filled with knowledge but our hearts are not keeping up. In fact, at a time when technology is taking off like a rocket spirituality seems to be fizzling out. As a people we are becoming more and more secular and less and less connected with God. This is a very dangerous place to be.  It’s blithely said, “knowledge is power”, but it is rarely pointed out that this power is only safe in the hands of those who are capable of handling it.

The coming collision will happen when great knowledge collides with weak spirituality.

Corruption, moral decay, and the lack of ethical foundation that connection to God brings will result in unparalleled destruction as we simply do not have the wisdom and restraint to handle the strides we are making in technology. The coming collision is like a bus hitting a bike. Our weak spiritual condition will be no match compared to the weight and size of the technology bus that is about to hit us.

Knowledge without restraint- That’s the problem we’re facing. At the very moment we need to be people of the highest character and most dependent on God we are finding ourselves lacking and incapable of meeting what is before us. In another “end times verse” we see what people will be like during those days…

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall comeFor men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” – 2 Timothy 3:1-5

We have the perfect storm brewing to create the “perilous times” this prophetic verse speaks of- Knowledge increasing while the spiritual life is decreasing is a recipe for disaster.
