All You Really Need Is Jesus

One of the most beautiful things written about Jesus is found in the Gospel according to Matthew:

“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out…” (Matthew 12:20)

He’ll never kick you when you’re down or walk away because you’re weak. When you feel like your light is almost gone and you have no hope left, He’s still there for you. Matthew was quoting the Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 42:3) and because Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever our hope is sure and certain.

Knowing our hope is certain is something that we all need, because the truth is, we fall short in so many ways. When I became a Christian I had the best intention to be as faithful to God as I could possibly be- how disappointed I was in myself that I didn’t live up to my high expectations! The reality is that I have failed God many, many times since the time I became His child, but the greater reality is that He has never failed me.

“The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” (Matthew 4:16)

When we’re tempted to think that our darkness and failures will cause Jesus to walk away from us we need to remember that He came for those who are living in darkness. He doesn’t run from your darkness, He runs to you! He’s the light of the world and a GREAT LIGHT at that. You may think, “His light will only expose how bad I am”, but Jesus is not some cold clinical light that shines merely to reveal and expose, Jesus is like sunshine that warms and comforts and invites you to enjoy Him and stay in His presence.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
