One Big Sign We’re Living In The Last Days

When you think about the end of the world and the signs that point to the last days what comes to mind? Maybe something like this?

“You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.” -Matthew 24:6-7

What probably doesn’t come to mind is Facebook, but maybe it should. Facebook is showing us something that the bible says will happen in a big way in the last days…

People will be lovers of themselves

One of the keys signs from the bible that points to the last days is that people will be obsessed with themselves to the extreme. Narcissism will run rampant to such a degree that people will regard it as normal.

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy…” -2 Timothy 3:1

You can look it up and read the entire paragraph. It’s a long list of what people will be like in the last days, and it pretty much describes life as we know it today, but number one on the list is- People will be lovers of themselves.

The truth is, people have always been lovers of themselves, so this must be talking about something beyond the ordinary. Google “Facebook narcissism”, or better yet, go on Facebook- it won’t take long before you’re agreeing with the bible- there’s a whole lot of self love going on today.

The Selfie Generation

Social Media turned out to be the perfect vehicle for a generation marked by self love; narcissism has never been so in vogue and in such flagrant display. The self promotion is endless. Instagram is literally filled with profiles of people who only post pictures of themselves!

Of course, selfies are just the surface points to a much deeper issue. Social Media is really beginning to look like everyone is selling themselves like some product on a store shelf! Why does the whole world seem to have the compulsive need to scream or pant or coo or purr “Look at me” ? The internet seems to have been created, as the Tower of Babel before it, for people to “make a name for themselves”.

Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” -Genesis 11:4

The selfie generation is by no means the first selfish generation; humanity has taken lessons from the Devil ever since the fall. It was his own overblown self love and pride that got Satan kicked out of heaven in the first place. Sadly, we follow in his steps more than we’d like to admit.

This explosion of unbridled self love is one of the biggest signs of what life will be like for those who are living in the last days according to the bible. A last days prophetic “writing on the wall” seems to be appearing real time in our day on Facebook!
