Nice Little Church

by: Mike Helms

There’s a nice little church on the corner of the block
and it's always filled with people,
It’s got a brown brick front and blue padded pews
and a pretty golden steeple

But I wonder if they’re goin’ to heaven or to hell
no one wants to ask the question
are we too afraid to tell the truth?

There’s a nice little church on the corner of the block
and they're never controversial
and when I was young, full of life and fun
I'd attend this dress rehearsal

For the meaning of existence must be something more than this
there’s more passion in a sunset
or a soft embracing kiss by far

There’s a nice little church on the corner of the block
and I went there out of hunger,
still I recall no real food at all
and it really makes me wonder

Why we’re so in love with rituals and so afraid of life
so religious on the outside
but my heart feels like a knife’s gone through it

There’s a nice little church on the corner of the block
and it's always filled with people,
It’s got a brown brick front and blue padded pews
and a pretty golden steeple

But I wonder if they’re goin’ to heaven or to hell
no one wants to ask the question
are we too afraid to tell the truth?
