He Is Our God

“For He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care…” -Psalm 95:7

To think that Jesus Christ came to earth in order to start a new religion called “Christianity” or that His chief objective was to provide a free “get out of hell” ticket to humanity is to totally miss the the point of why He came into this world. God has always wanted from the very beginning to have unbroken relationship with His people- Restoring that relationship has always been uppermost in His mind and it is the reason that Jesus came to earth.

“They will be my people, and I will be their God. -Jeremiah 32:38

A very short and simple sentence it is- “They will be my people and I will be their God” yet it encapsulates God’s heart and intentions! Even the very last book in the bible speaks of it…

“He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.” -Revelation 21:7

I recently released a song called “Jesus Is Not Religious“. There is a vast difference between living in a religious system and living in relationship with God. From what I can tell from reading the scripture relationship is what God is after.

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” -John 4:23

What is it God is looking for? Those who will enter into relationship with Him, “in spirit and in truth”.

It is against the religious backdrop of the day that Jesus makes this statement. He is telling us, “It’s not a city we make pilgrimage too, it’s not a place.” (“Neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem”– John 4:21)

It’s not a religious ritual that God is after- It is a vital living relationship with the Father that we are to seek because that is what He is seeks from us!”

“They will be my people, and I will be their God. -Jeremiah 32:38

He Is Our God And We Are His People

When God tells us that we are “the sheep of His pasture” He is letting us know that He will care for us.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” – John 10:11

Jesus proved His love by caring for us even to the point of laying down His life. The great theme that runs through the Word of God from beginning to end is that God desires to care for, and be in relationship with, His people.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” -Psalm 23
