God Who Created All Things Cares For Me!

One of the most inspiring and encouraging things in the entirety of scripture is that the God who created all things cares for me! When I wrote Psalm 19 I had that in mind. I’ve always loved the opening lines of Psalm 19 because they speak of the vastness and glory of God seen in creation.

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.

-Psalm 19: 1-4

I was living in Florida when I wrote this song and one of the fond memories I had of that time was going for walks late at night. I could feel the balmy breeze and hear the sound of it rustling through the palms. As I looked up and gazed at the night sky I was often filled with the wonder and thought of the greatness of God and how He’d created it all. I was amazed that the one who had strewn the stars across the sky, who had created this indescribably beautiful world we all live in cared intimately for me.

Psalm 19 was the starting place for me, but when I wrote my song I also drew heavily from the thoughts of Psalm 104, another glorious song written by David that tells of God’s constant care of His creation.

He makes springs pour water into the ravines;
it flows between the mountains.
They give water to all the beasts of the field;
the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
The birds of the sky nest by the waters;
they sing among the branches.
He waters the mountains from his upper chambers;
the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
He makes grass grow for the cattle,
and plants for people to cultivate—
bringing forth food from the earth:
wine that gladdens human hearts,
oil to make their faces shine,
and bread that sustains their hearts.

Psalm 104:10-15

We may be of little account in our own eyes, or in the eyes of the world, but to God we are treasured! Who was this guy living in a small room the size of a shoe box, driving an old rusty car from church to church? Almost no one knew me or cared- but God knew me; and God cared!

I’m amazed by that.

When I sing this song or listen back to the recording of it, I can’t help but smile- I am still just as amazed as I ever was that this awesome, wonderful, glorious God cares and takes notice of me. That He would send His Son to die for you and me is beyond my understanding and something that I’m grateful for beyond words.
