Follow The Algorithm

History will look back and mark our present day as the beginning of the “Age of The Algorithm”.

Things are rapidly ramping up as we approach the “end times” finish line and I have little doubt “The Algorithm” is one of the major sign posts indicating that we are nearing the end of the age.

Hyperbole, you ask?

Well, consider the power of the algorithm for yourself- The Algorithm will inform, dictate and control our world in ways we can’t even begin to imagine. In fact, it’s already doing so! Far from being neutral or benign the algorithm influences. Not openly, of course, but surreptitiously- Behind the scenes it controls the stream of information we receive- or that which we simply never hear about by virtue of the algorithm.

From the great visionary George Orwell: “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.”

Repressive regimes need no physical boot to make an impression. I didn’t come across Orwell’s quote until after I wrote “Follow the Algorithm” but you’ll notice the lyrics “WE’LL STAMP YOU OUT!”

In the Age of the Algorithm you and I will not matter. What we think will not matter. The power of The Algorithm for those who wield it will be the ability to leave it’s mark on us, it’s indelible impression stamped on our psyche. And all without us ever knowing it if done well.

Again, from George Orwell’s book 1984: “Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.”

And that my friends, is the power of The Algorithm.

The Mark Of The Beast

Power and control over humanity has forever and will always be the issue. The Age of the Algorithm will consolidate power and direct the stream of consciousness in ways never before possible setting the stage for total domination.

“It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.” -Revelation 13:16-17

How do we get to the point where people willingly “take the mark”?

It’s not that hard to imagine, is it? We’re already willingly submitting to algorithms every day! How many people were totally outraged with Facebook and it’s privacy polices when it began? And just how many left because of it? Not many. The truth is, the general population has since been conditioned to believe that privacy itself is not a part of the modern landscape, a mere relic of a bygone era. We accept this abnormality as the new normal! Facebook later went on to do social experiments on it’s subscribers and has patented technology to secretly watch people through their cellphone cameras to record how they react to posts. Just another day in the Age of the Algorithm. Does anyone care?

Does anyone care that search engines and large corporations are essentially surveilling us, recording and collecting our interests and history? Does it concern us that political elections may be swayed by algorithms that slant search results? Are we alarmed that unpopular or politically incorrect speech could be stifled never seeing the light of day due to an algorithm?

“For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable – what then?”   -George Orwell, “1984”

Our society has begun to strongly mirror the thought process that Orwell describes. Objective truths are simply ceasing to exist. The past is being rewritten, genders are becoming non-binary, and whatever is conceived in the mind is taught to be truth without any objective standards. Algorithms will push agendas and punish the noncomplaint.

The Mark of the Beast will be accepted by many and forced on some.

We have barely begun the Age of the Algorithm. Will we “Follow the Algorithm”? To some degree I think we are all already doing that. We can’t escape the fact that the world seeks to make us conform to it’s mold.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect”. -Romans 12:2

With God’s help, let’s be aware and nonconformist in the best sense of the word.
