Woe is me! I have seen the King, the LORD Almighty!
The moment Isaiah saw the Lord "seated on a throne, high and exalted", he saw himself as a worm. (All true revival begins with seeing the LORD, which quickly puts our spiritual condition in perspective!) Notice though that Isaiah couldn't use his "unclean" condition as an excuse to sit around and do nothing; a seraph flew to him, touched his lips with a burning coal taken from the altar, and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." (Read Isaiah 6:1-10) How much more, then, are we made clean by Jesus, who, "by one sacrifice has made perfect forever those who are being made holy". (Hebrews 10:14) Like Isaiah, our guilt has been removed, yet in a perfect and complete way: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." (Hebrews 10:17)
Having had his sin atoned for, Isaiah was quick to respond to God's call with the now famous reply, "Here am I. Send me!"
And so you and I stand, as people who have been "made perfect forever", and yet very much in need of "being made holy". (Hebrews 10:14) Our lack of perfection cannot be used as an excuse, either to stay in that condition or to fail to get up and do God's work! The blood of Jesus removes every stain of sin; isn't it time to avail ourselves of it? (1 John 1:5-10)
Revival begins with God moving upon His people one by one until it sweeps through the church and catches us all up in His glory! Will we turn our hearts to the Lord and repent? Will we sound His call to the church to repent and return to the Lord? We have so many excuses we could give why we're not the ones that God should use; and we would be right, except for this one thing- the blood of Jesus!
"How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!" (Hebrews 9:14)
Let this be the day we confess our sin, trust in His blood, AND rise up to speak the words of Isaiah, ""Here am I. Send me!"
