A world without God
Have you ever wondered what the end result of men tossing God to the curb will be?
“His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor, gathering His wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” (Matthew 3:12)
Well, it’s not going to be what people expect! God’s not going to just throw up His hands and toss in the towel when it comes to this world- He’s holy, and that quality is not going away. It occurred to me today that all sin and rebellion has a short shelf life. God’s going to have the final say in the end; He’s going to have His way in this world- whether we like it or not!
That means that when we see all the crazy things going on around us, and people are flaunting their sin like a prized necklace, we need to remember- the party’s soon going to be over.
“His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor.”
What does that mean for me? Well, first of all, it tells me not to get taken in by the world’s big show. It tells me to repent of loving the junk the world feeds me and I so quickly gobble up. It reminds me that what’s popular and normal in the world’s view means pretty much nothing as far as God’s concerned.
It also tells me not to get bent out of shape when I see the downward spiral the world’s in. The current trends of the world will not last forever; God’s going to take care of this mess.
“His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor.”
On a personal level, reading this verse reminds me how much I need Jesus- because without Him I’m exactly the same as all the things I hate about the sinful world I live in. Yes, that’s right- the only thing that saves me from the same judgment that is coming on this world is God’s grace in Jesus Christ. I’m in the same boat as everyone else on this planet- I need saving; it’s not just the world that’s gone wrong- I’ve gone wrong too!
“All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” (Romans 3:12)
I know there are people who will disagree with that verse and find fault with it, and all I can say is, God has a higher standard than we do. Our main problem is we refuse to see things as God sees them- and this is how God sees it.
“There is no one who does good, not even one.”
What can I do?
My final thought as I read these verses in the bible is for those who have never met Christ. If you’re a Christian you need to cling to Him; if you’re not, you need to come to Him. Jesus is the only way out of a messed up world, whether it be your personal life or the craziness you see around you. Consider the last part of the verse I started with:
“He will clear His threshing floor, gathering His wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
To be honest, I can’t really comprehend the term “unquenchable fire”. I do believe the bible though and Jesus talked about the reality of hell and everlasting punishment by fire. All I know is that I want to be wheat gathered into the barn, and not chaff burned up with unquenchable fire. Since eternal life is a gift that God gives freely through Jesus Christ I can only urge you to take the gift of God’s Son, and run to Him rather than away from Him. The bible says that no one who trusts in Him will ever be disappointed.
“For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” (Romans 10:11)
